China Study Centre

The China-Pakistan relationship has evolved since the 1960s to become a strategic partnership. On part of Pakistan, one thing that has been lacking in this relationship however, is the presence of a dedicated academic institutions of research and study on China. The trenmendous pace of the 21st century. In fact many observers have noted that the 21st century would be the century of China. It is for this reason that scholars around the world cannot afford to ignore this rising giant.

With this in mind, the Institute of Strategic Studies, Islamabad established a dedicated China Study Centre at its premises in January 2007. The centre will be solely responsible for intensive research on China and the issues that impinge on Pakistan-China relations. At this initial stage, the centre has one Director and five Research Scholars. The centre is presently in the process of building up its research database as well as plans for sending a few of these scholars for language cources to China for a first  hand experiance of Chinese Politics, society and culture. The Centre has also started a fortnightly series of China Brief that covers important developments concerning China and the world, for consumption by acadamic institutuions and officials dealing with China.

The ISSI hopes to expand the scope of published material on China through its China Study Centre in future as the expertise of its members gains a solid footing.
