The current Chairman and Director General of ISSI was educated at Government College, Lahore and Oxford University. As a career diplomat he held senior positions in the Pakistan Foreign Office including that of Foreign Secretary, Government of Pakistan. He is also the former Pakistan Ambassador to Bangladesh, Czechoslovakia, Iran, France, the Russian Federation and non-resident ambassador to Ireland and Finland. He held senior positions in Pakistan’s embassies in London, Bonn and Kabul.

Outside his diplomatic career, he has worked as Secretary, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of Pakistan and as Chairman Pakistan Television Corporation and Pakistan Broadcasting Corporation.

Dr. Tanvir Ahmad Khan has published more than 500 articles in Pakistani and foreign newspapers and journals. He has contributed chapters on foreign and security policy issues to various books.
